Kitchen Renovation: Your Mini-Guide to Modern Development

If you’re tired of your old, outdated kitchen and you want to change it and have a much more modern kitchen installed instead, there are a number of things you need to think about. Having a kitchen renovation is a great idea and can be very exciting, but it does need plenty of planning to ensure you get it right and that you’re happy with both the look and the function of the finished space.

In this blog post, we’ll go through what you need to create a modern kitchen so you can plan ahead and ensure your new kitchen is exactly what you want.

Assess Your Needs And Set A Budget

Before you can really make a start when it comes to renovating your kitchen, it’s important to work out precisely what it is you need in that kitchen. How do you want to use it? Are you someone who loves to cook? Do you want a space for entertaining? Or perhaps you want to create a space where the whole family can spend time. Think about the most important reasons to upgrade and update your kitchen and then you can work out what you need to have in it.

At the same time, it’s a good idea to come up with a budget for your renovations. You might want a lot of exciting new features in your kitchen, and it’s easy to get carried away when you’re designing the space. However, if your budget won’t allow for these things, you might have trouble – you’ll either spend too much or you’ll be disappointed. By having a budget in place right from the start, you’ll easily be able to work out what’s possible and what you need to compromise on.

Plan The Layout

Once you know what you need and how much you can spend, you can think about the layout. A well-designed layout means you can use the room in the most efficient way possible. Even a smaller room can be used well if you plan a good layout. One thing to start with is thinking about the ‘golden triangle,’ which is the sink, oven, and fridge. These things should be in easy reach of one another to that using the kitchen is easy and functional.

On top of this, you can think about whether you want an open-plan design. This can make it feel like your new kitchen is part of the rest of the house. Of course, this might mean updating the rest of your home to match the new kitchen, but you don’t have to rush this – just have a plan and be ready when your budget will allow for it.

Choose Modern Materials And Finishes

If you want a modern kitchen, you need to pick modern materials and finishes. Look for items that are sleek and contemporary, but that still make you feel happy – your kitchen needs to be a place you want to be, after all.

Some modern ideas include task lighting under the cabinets, clean lines, a modern kitchen island, and handle-less designs. Another great idea is to install aluminium bi-fold doors so you can open up the entire space and enjoy the transition from inside to outside. This is perfect whether you want to have some family time or you’re entertaining and need to give guests a larger space.

When it comes to the materials in your kitchen, a modern idea is to contrast them. Have striking visual colours and designs that stand out but that tie together to make your kitchen look beautiful.

Integrate Smart Appliances

Smart appliances will make your new kitchen truly modern and ensure that it is as user-friendly as possible. You could install a smart fridge with a touch screen or an oven that can be programmed using an app, for example. Even your lighting could be controlled through the wifi, and you can change the settings to make it brighter or dimmer depending on what you need to use the kitchen for.

What’s great about smart appliances is that they can save you money on your energy bills too. Because you can control them exactly the way you want, you can choose exactly when they go on and off, for example – your oven won’t need to be on for so long to heat up, and you can ensure your lights are off when no one is in the room even if you forget to physically switch them off when you left (you can use your phone instead).
