Double the Comfort: Get the Perfect Sleeping Atmosphere with a Double Bed

Looking for a bed that is larger than a twin but not so big as a queen? The double bed could be the right option for you. Also known as a full bed, it’s the perfect midway size.

This type of bed is designed to fit two people or a single person who wants to have extra space to spread out. It is commonly assumed that a double bed is twice as wide as a twin one, but that is not accurate. A twin bed is 96 cm wide and 1,90 cm long, while a double bed is 137 cm wide and 1,90 cm long. It is only 41 cm wider than the twin, but it is the same length.

Double beds are available in a range of designs, materials and styles, which means you shouldn’t have a problem finding the right double bed and mattress to suit your needs. There is a double bed to fit every interior décor, from sleek and modern to rustic and classic. You may select from various styles for the headboard and footboard, as well as frame materials like metal or wood, and finishes that go well with the overall decor of your bedroom.

Who Should Get a Double Bed?

For kids or teenagers who want more space than a twin but not nearly as much as a queen, the double bed is often the go-to choice. It allows them to stretch out a little bit more and can even hold an additional guest for sleepovers.

For those who are looking to save space, a double bed can also be an option. A guest room, a college dorm or apartment, or just a small room will probably be able to accommodate the double bed. Generally, a space that is at least 3 x 3 metres may accommodate a size like this.

A double bed will fit two people of average weight, though it might be a tight fit, especially if they both like to sprawl out. This bed size is also a great option for adults who sleep alone. It provides enough space for single sleepers to stretch out without having to spend extra money for the few extra centimetres that come with a queen bed.

There are a few things you’ll want to consider when choosing a double bed and mattress for a couple. Motion isolation is one of them. With this function, there’s less chance that you and your partner will wake up in the middle of the night if one of you slides out of bed to use the restroom. Mattresses with memory foam, latex, and hybrid construction are well-known for their capacity to absorb motion. When one of you moves during the night, their motion-isolating cores and thick foam toppers guarantee the least amount of disruption.

Another important feature to consider is strong edge support, particularly if you’re a couple who tend to sit on the side of the bed. Mattress edge support means the mattress is also supportive at the edges. This helps avoid the “roll-off” sensation when you sleep near the edge.

What Size of Room You’ll Need to Accommodate a Full-Size Bed?

The full bed is a versatile bed size that works well in a variety of settings, including compact master bedrooms, college dorm rooms and guest rooms. Generally speaking, if your bedroom is at least 3m x 2.8 m, you should have no issues using a full-size bed.

How big your room should be to accommodate a double bed will depend on the bed frame you choose and the other furniture you plan to add to the room. For a double bed, a mid-sized frame, two nightstands, and a dresser, a 3m x 2.8 m room size should work perfectly. But you may need a little extra space if you want to add a couch and an entertainment centre, for example.

Before buying a bed, always make sure to plan out your room: sketch it out on graph paper, mark the spot on the floor where the bed will go, etc. This will ensure that you are aware of how your room will be organised before your bed is delivered, saving you time and headaches.

How to Dress a Double Bed?

Like with other bed sizes, dressing a double bed involves picking and arranging the bedding, pillows and other accessories to create a comfortable and visually appealing look.

To prolong the life of your mattress and keep it clean, first layer a mattress protector. Next, throw a fitted sheet on top of the mattress, making sure it fits snugly and has elastic corners to hold it in place.

Then, add a flat sheet or a duvet cover if you’re using a duvet. Consider a cover that complements the colour scheme or theme of the room. Place a comfortable and season-appropriate comforter or duvet insert inside the duvet cover. This bedding piece will add warmth while serving as a centrepiece for the bedding.

To create a cohesive look, consider using pillows that match or complement the duvet. Arrange standard or queen-sized ones against the headboard. Add decorative or accent pillows in front of the sleeping pillows. Mix and match different sizes, shapes, and textures to create visual interest. Finally, drape a throw blanket at the foot of the bed to complete the look.
